Organization
Department Overview. The Westlake Fire Department is
comprised of four shifts which contribute to the safe community
we enjoy. We serve the community in many different ways including
emergency situation management such as fires and medical
services.
Fire Chief. Our Fire Chief,
Jacques Picou, has been serving the department since 1984 and was
appointed chief in October 2000. Chief Picou provides
for planning, staffing, budgeting, direction, coordination,
evaluation, and administrative and logistics support of all
divisions within the department.
Fire
Suppression. Fire incident commanders, apparatus operators,
and firefighters respond to the needs of the community by delivering
emergency and non-emergency services by responding personnel and
equipment to incidents of an emergency nature, and maintaining a
proactive plan designed to reduce the potential for injury and
property damage in the community.
Fire Prevention. The Fire Prevention Division provides
education, inspection, training, and assistance to the public with
application of appropriate codes, ordinances, and laws that
facilitate the protection of people, property and the environment in
this community from the negative effect of fire, hazardous
materials, and other preventable disasters.
EMS. The Emergency Medical Services Division provides
emergency medical coverage to people residing in or passing through
the consolidated municipality of Westlake, and responds to all
requests for emergency medical service within the jurisdictional
boundaries of Westlake Fire District, and those other areas covered by
contract or mutual aid agreements.
